Restorative/Youth Justice

Restorative Justice is  a system of criminal justice that focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community at large. We do this by bringing all parties together and hold a community conference. The program is completely voluntary and can only take place once the person who caused harm takes responsibility for their actions. Restorative and Youth Justice files are mainly referred to us by the RCMP, Crown Office, and Probation.

Main Benefits of this Program:

  1. It diverts less serious offences from the courts to the community, freeing up the courts to deal with more serious crimes.  This reduces costs to the community and the legal system.
  2. It provides resources and support to our clients so they can get the help that they need.
  3. The victims’ perspective and needs are the primary focus, while showing compassion and forgiveness for the offender.
  4. The victims feel safer and more satisfied after confronting the person who harmed them.
  5. The offender becomes accountable to who they have harmed and have an opportunity to make it right.
  6. This method is proven to reduce crime long-term
