Peacekeeping Circles

Peacekeeping circles are generally for… keeping the peace! It is a community response that aims to address behaviour concerns and establish community safety through drawing on the wisdom and experience of people in your community. It essentially is community building for the purpose of achieving a more harmonious community.

It is derived from Indigenous teachings and traditions, peacemaking circles bring people together in a way that creates trust, respect, good will, belonging, and equality. The process is never about changing others, but rather an invitation to change onesself and one’s relationship within the community.

This method is the primary method used when Restorative Justice enters schools. This program is intended to educate adults and has been adapted into an 8 week program for children in elementary and junior high school.
